Jaguar has officially announced that its upcoming all-electric four-door grand tourer will carry the name Jaguar Type 01. Positioned as a key model in the brand’s revival strategy and inspired by Jaguar’s historic performance icons, the new EV is built on a dedicated electric architecture and features a three-motor powertrain producing more than 1,000 horsepower.
A camouflaged prototype of the Type 01 is scheduled to make its first public appearance during the Formula E Monaco Grand Prix, while the model’s full global debut is planned for September.
The new Jaguar Type 01 name carries significant historical meaning for Jaguar. The “Type” designation traces its origins back to the legendary Jaguar C-Type, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1951.
Later iconic Jaguar models, including the Jaguar E-Type and Jaguar F-Type, also continued using the historic “Type” naming tradition.
Jaguar says the name Jaguar Type 01 was carefully chosen to reflect the brand’s future direction. The “0” represents the car’s fully electric, zero-emissions identity, while the “1” highlights its role as the first groundbreaking model in Jaguar’s new generation of vehicles.
The company also emphasizes that the Type 01 has been completely designed, developed, and built in the UK. A dedicated Type 01 badge sits where the hood meets the windshield, integrated into a sharp, sculpted body line that previews a new signature styling theme expected to influence future Jaguar models.
DIMENSION:
Based on earlier reports, the Jaguar Type 01 will be a seriously large and powerful electric grand tourer, measuring 5,235 mm long, 2,220 mm wide, and 1,395 mm tall, with a substantial 3,200 mm wheelbase.
POWERTRAIN:
Underneath, the car rides on Jaguar’s dedicated EV architecture and uses a sophisticated triple-motor all-wheel-drive setup delivering a massive 746 kW and 1,300 Nm of torque. That should allow the Type 01 to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
Energy comes from a large 120 kWh battery pack capable of delivering up to 700 km of WLTP range. Jaguar also plans to equip the flagship with advanced chassis technologies including all-wheel steering, dual-chamber air suspension, and torque vectoring for sharper handling and greater stability.
PRICE:
Early reports suggest that the Jaguar Type 01 will position itself firmly in the luxury performance segment. In the UK market, pricing is expected to begin at around £120,000, while fully equipped flagship versions could climb beyond £150,000.
