New 2027 Land Rover Defender Facelift Model Testing

Land Rover Defender Facelift

Fresh spy shots of the updated Land Rover Defender have emerged, giving an early look at the SUV’s first major facelift since the current generation debuted in 2019. While the Defender keeps its unmistakable boxy design, Land Rover appears to be refining the details with subtle exterior revisions and, notably, a new four-seat executive-style interior layout featuring individual rear seats.

The refreshed model is also expected to receive powertrain updates to strengthen its appeal in the increasingly competitive luxury off-road segment. An official unveiling is expected toward the end of 2026 or in early 2027.

EXTERIOR:

In terms of exterior design, the updated Land Rover Defender retains its rugged proportions and signature boxy silhouette, continuing the classic design language associated with the brand. However, several exterior details have been revised.

At the front, the prototype remains heavily camouflaged, though larger fog lights are clearly visible. The front bumper appears to have been redesigned with a wider lower air intake and a larger mesh grille section, seemingly replacing the slim centrally mounted intake used on the current model. These changes contribute to a more imposing appearance while also improving cooling and airflow efficiency.

Rear-end revisions are more subtle, consisting mainly of minor bumper adjustments and the addition of a newly integrated roof spoiler designed to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the boxy body shape.

INTERIOR:

The most significant interior update in the refreshed Land Rover Defender is the introduction of a new 2+2 four-seat configuration designed to improve comfort and luxury. At present, four individual seats are offered only on the Land Rover Defender 130, but following the facelift, this layout is expected to become available on additional variants such as the Land Rover Defender 110.

This change is intended to provide a stronger balance between off-road capability and rear passenger comfort. Aside from the seating revisions, no major changes have been observed in areas such as the center console or instrument panel, which continue to follow the current model’s rugged and practical design philosophy.

POWERTRAIN:

Land Rover has yet to release official technical specifications for the facelifted Land Rover Defender, but the current engine lineup offers a strong indication of what to expect. Existing models are available with a 296 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a 395 hp 3.0-litre inline-six, a 493 hp 5.0-litre supercharged V8, and a range-topping 626 hp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8.

One major change could involve the retirement of the long-running 5.0-litre supercharged V8, which is reportedly being phased out in favor of the newer and more powerful 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 setup.
