New Audi A2 e-Tron to be Released This Fall

NEW AUDI A2 e-TRON:

Audi has offered an early glimpse of the upcoming A2 e-tron, releasing test footage that shows the EV tackling mountain roads, snow-covered conditions, and wind tunnel development sessions. As Audi’s new entry-level electric model, the car is set for its official launch this fall and will begin production at the brand’s Ingolstadt facility in Germany. Designed to effectively replace the A1 and Q2, the A2 e-tron aims to attract younger customers seeking a more affordable entry point into Audi’s electric portfolio.

POWERTRAIN:

Unlike other compact electric models within the Volkswagen Group such as the Volkswagen ID. Polo and Skoda Epiq, which are based on the front-wheel-drive MEB+ platform the new Audi A2 e-tron is expected to adopt the rear-wheel-drive MEB architecture shared with the Audi Q4 e-tron. As a result, the model will likely be offered with rear-wheel drive as standard, with a potential dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant also under consideration. However, due to platform constraints, the vehicle is expected to utilize a 400-volt electrical system and will not support the group’s newer 800-volt fast-charging technology.

The new model’s coupe-inspired silhouette draws inspiration from the original 1999 Audi A2, a vehicle recognized for its all-aluminum construction, forward-looking design, and strong efficiency credentials. Despite these strengths, the original model’s high price point and limited mainstream appeal confined it to niche status. The new Audi A2 e-tron aims to better align with modern market expectations by blending retro-inspired styling with a more accessible pricing strategy.

According to previously captured spy photographs, the all-new Audi A2 e-tron adopts Audi’s latest family design language across both the exterior and interior. Up front, the model retains the brand’s characteristic large grille, while the lighting system uses a split-headlamp layout, pairing slim upper daytime running lights with separate LED headlamp units positioned below. At the rear, a full-width taillight arrangement and roof-mounted spoiler contribute to a more athletic visual profile.

INTERIOR:

The interior of the Audi A2 e-tron draws clear inspiration from the latest Q5 and A6, borrowing a familiar digital instrument cluster and center display layout, though without the added passenger-side screen. The cabin also features Audi’s new-generation steering wheel design, notably keeping physical multifunction buttons for improved usability. A column-mounted shifter further enhances practicality by opening up additional storage and space around the center console.
