Mercedes-Benz Reveals the All-New VLE Luxury Electric MPV
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the all-new VLE, a luxury electric model built on an entirely new van architecture platform. The vehicle features a cutting-edge 800-volt electrical system, runs on the MB.OS operating system, and offers an impressive driving range of up to 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge.
Described as a “luxury limousine,” the VLE represents a completely new development for the brand and does not resemble any previous model in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup.
The German automaker aims to redefine modern luxury by combining the elegance of a sedan with the practicality of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Despite its spacious MPV design, the VLE achieves a remarkable drag coefficient of just 0.25, highlighting its aerodynamic efficiency.
Modern Exterior Design
The VLE features a sleek exterior with an elongated roofline that smoothly flows into a rounded rear section. The production model finally reveals the design that was previously hidden under heavy camouflage during months of road testing.
The front of the vehicle may include an illuminated grille, a continuous light strip connecting the headlights, and star-shaped daytime running lights using DIGITAL LIGHT technology. Depending on the variant, the car may also feature either a standing hood star or an integrated central emblem. At the rear, arc-shaped taillights are integrated into the edge of the aerodynamic spoiler.
Spacious and Flexible Interior
Inside, the Mercedes-Benz VLE can accommodate up to eight passengers across three rows of seats. Buyers can choose between remote-adjustable “Seat Ballet” seats or manually adjustable Roll & Go seats.
The manual seats are mounted on four wheels, allowing them to slide forward or backward, lock into position, or be completely removed to create additional cargo space.
Power-adjustable seats can be controlled via the Mercedes-Benz mobile app, through the Remote Rear Space Adjustment feature, or directly from the center console screen. Mercedes describes the synchronized movement of the seats as resembling a ballet performance.
Four seating configurations are available:
-
Luggage Mode – pushes all seats forward to maximize cargo space
-
Premium Mode – moves seats backward to increase legroom
-
Passenger & Luggage Mode – balances seating and cargo capacity
-
Standard Mode – default everyday layout
For additional comfort, customers can select Grand Comfort seats, which include extended headrests, wireless charging, lumbar support, massage functions, and calf support.
Advanced Entertainment and Technology
Rear passengers can enjoy the MBUX infotainment system, featuring a 31.3-inch 8K panoramic display with split-screen functionality and an 8-megapixel camera. The screen is mounted in the ceiling above the front seats and retracts automatically when not in use.
The vehicle runs on MB.OS (Mercedes-Benz Operating System) and includes the MBUX virtual assistant, powered by multi-agent artificial intelligence capable of understanding complex conversations and responding naturally.
The MBUX Superscreen integrates three displays beneath a single glass surface:
-
10.25-inch driver display
-
14-inch central touchscreen
-
14-inch front passenger display
A head-up display with enhanced navigation projects a 23.1-inch virtual image approximately four meters ahead of the vehicle, showing important driving and navigation information.
The cabin is further enhanced by a Burmester 3D surround sound system with 22 speakers and Dolby Atmos, delivering a premium audio experience.
Performance and Driving Technology
The VLE is equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension with 1.5 inches of adjustable ride height and 7-degree rear-axle steering, making maneuvering easier despite the vehicle’s size. It achieves a tight turning radius of just 35.75 feet, similar to the compact Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Power comes from a 115 kWh battery pack using advanced NMC battery technology. The system delivers a maximum range of 435 miles (700 km). Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the battery can recharge enough power for 221 miles (355 km) in just 15 minutes.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The VLE includes advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies such as:
-
DISTRONIC distance assist
-
MB.DRIVE ASSIST for semi-autonomous highway driving
-
Automatic lane-changing when the driver activates the turn signal
-
11 airbags
-
PRE-SAFE collision protection system
Practical Features
Both sides of the vehicle feature HANDS-FREE Access sliding doors, similar to those on the V-Class, with fully retractable windows. At the rear, a separate opening window allows for easier loading and unloading. Buyers can also opt for the EASY-PACK electric tailgate.
Powertrain Options
The all-new VLE will be available in two versions:
-
VLE 300 – single-motor setup producing 272 horsepower
-
VLE 400 4MATIC – dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 409 horsepower (415 metric hp)
The VLE 400 4MATIC accelerates from 0–60 mph in just 6.4 seconds.
Pricing
Official pricing for the United States has not yet been announced. However, sources suggest the starting price in Europe will be approximately $79,000, which converts to around $91,755 USD.
